The floods come at a time when Indonesia is already grappling with the highest caseload and death tally of COVID-19 in Southeast Asia and while going through an economic recession.

The capital of Indonesia, Jakarta was lashed with heavy rains on Friday (19 February) and it has been a heavy downpour since. The heavy rains have resulted in flooding in a number of areas in Jakarta and the surrounding areas including Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi.

As per the National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure (BPBD) the floods in Jakarta has affected over 182 families and more than 1,380 people have had to be evacuated to emergency shelters, while thousands more are currently waiting for evacuation and emergency aid to reach them. Many parts of Jakarta are under 1.2 to 2.7 metres of water. Casualty numbers are increasing as you read this.

Reports from the Bekasi area, BPBD stated that the flooding has displaced 275 families and 2 casualties have been reported. For the Karawang area, floods have occurred since last week, and another flood occurred on Friday night. Reports coming in show 18 affected sub-districts and 7,397 people from 3,255 families have had to evacuate. Currently, requests for evacuation continue to arrive from the affected families that are still trapped in their residences. The most urgent thing for them at this time is ready-to-eat food, mineral water and evacuation boats.

Donation to this campaign will allow the team to facilitate the the evacuation process immediately and provide the evacuees with the required amenities like:

1. Sleeping mat
2. Blankets
3. Ready-to-eat food
4. Mineral air
5. Clean clothes
6. Baby diapers
7. Hygiene Kit
8. Medicines

The number of people affected is increasing as you read this. The people of Jakarta need our help. The Messenger of Allah said: “Whoever relieves a Muslim of a burden from the burdens of the world, Allah will relieve him of a burden from the burdens on the Day of Judgement. And whoever helps ease a difficulty in the world, Allah will grant him ease from a difficulty in the world and in the Hereafter. And whoever covers (the faults of) a Muslim, Allah will cover (his faults) for him in the world and the Hereafter. And Allah is engaged in helping the worshipper as long as the worshipper is engaged in helping his brother.” [Tirmidhi]

This is a developing campaign story. More information will be updated eventually as we get news from our partners on the ground.
