Help Feed Drought Struck Families in Somalia This Eid (Cow)
In Somalia, 5.6 million people are currently food insecure and 2.8 million people cannot meet their daily food requirements due to the compounding impacts of extended drought, flooding, desert locust infestations, the economic impacts of COVID-19 and conflict. Somalia is vulnerable to increasingly erratic and extreme weather patterns, such as repeated droughts and seasonal floods. In the former, crops fail, and livestock die from lack of water and food; in the latter, they are simply washed away. This has left over 70% of Somalis to live below the poverty line.
Following three failed rainy seasons, 745,000 people have been displaced by drought in Somalia since the start of last year, including 500,000 in the first quarter of 2022, the latest figures from the Protection and Return Monitoring Network show. Of those displaced this year, almost two-thirds fled to urban districts including Mogadishu, adding pressure on already limited services and overpopulated displacement camps.
This Eid al-Adha, we aim to put a smile on the face of our poor and needy Muslim brothers and sisters in Somalia. They should also get the chance to forget their sorrows and make the most out of Eid. Our charity partners will be arranging Udhiyah or Qurban of cows this Eid ul Adha without any extra middlemen in between.
After the qurban, the meat is not distributed randomly to anyone who comes asking for it. After careful research and proper verification, a list is formed of those who are the neediest families. The preparation of this list is done with a lot of care so that meat reaches those who are really deserving.
The team on the ground will be fulfilling all Islamic principles and requirements as per proper Islamic teachings. The meat will be distributed to the poorest and most deserving families in Somalia.
By donating to this qurban campaign, our donors have the opportunity to help feed our brothers and sisters directly on the ground in Somalia. It’s not just about the quantity of the donation. The main aim is the quality of our donations and being a part of circulating good for the sake of Allah.
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “The best of deeds is making the believer happy, such as covering his ‘awrah, satisfying his hunger or meeting his need.” [Tabarani]
For these people finding sustenance is a challenge in itself and with their non-existent, meagre earnings, a good meal (like meat) is a luxury most have rarely experienced.
Your sacrifice done for these people will bring them huge relief and great joy on this auspicious occasion of Eid. Donations to this campaign will help provide meat packages to these poor and needy Muslims so that they also get the chance to forget their sorrows and make the most out of Eid.
