Campaign Story

In 2024, Alliance Islamic Bank, through SocioBiz, joined forces with a social-enterprise, SURI to empower single mothers in Langkawi. With a programme called the MAH-SURI Lifestyle Project, the social-enterprise imparts creative sewing skills such as repurposing fabric items. 94 women learned new skills, boosted their incomes, and fuelled a thriving circular economy.

Building on that success, we are introducing the MySURI Seragam Project.

The project aims to train and upskill 50 B40 housewives in Langkawi and Klang to sew school uniforms. The initiative will provide them with a steady and sustainable income while easing the finances of families. A newly created SURI product hub in Kilim further supports community development and the growing sustainable handicraft industry.

The newly sewn school uniforms will be distributed to selected students in Langkawi and Klang, aiming to alleviate the financial burden on the underprivileged families. This project also aspires to increase students’ enthusiasm for learning and boost their morale.
