Campaign Story

Alliance Islamic Bank (AIB) under its' Sociobiz initiative, brings an opportunity to #CirculateGood via this campaign, MAH-SURI. SURI is a Social Enterprise that provides financial opportunity and living skills for B40 single and underprivileged mothers who struggle with financial challenges in the Sg. Udang and Klang areas.

SURI turns unwanted denim into fashionable handbags, backpacks, totes, accessories, apparels and other household items. SURI also believes in protecting the environment through upcycling.

SURI has gone from strength to strength since it was first established and is currently working with fashion designers and labels. For example, SURI is collaborating with UNIQLO (M) Sdn Bhd, where 40 underprivileged mothers are currently earning a stable income by working on either a full time or part time basis. 10 of these mothers are now certified Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (Level 3) as part of their sustainable growth initiative.

Today, SURI will be expanding its operations to Langkawi under the MAH-SURI project to improve the lives of 100 underprivileged single mothers who are facing financial challenges. They will be given the opportunity to generate immediate income through training for Creative Sewing Techniques, Design and Product Development.

This campaign is also a collaboration with the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA), with the goal of developing the FIRST locally made sustainable handcraft brand in Langkawi Island through up-cycling discarded hotel bed sheet linens into new eco-innovative products and sustainable fashion.

The project is scheduled to be completed within a year and this campaign aims to raise funds (MYR 70,000) for required machineries as per below:
