Campaign Story

Heavy floods in the district of Beaufort saw over 5,000 victims housed in 40 shelters, with many casualties. Water levels rose alarmingly and cut off access to many roads connecting the villages. Some villagers were scared to evacuate, despite their houses being inundated, out of fear of being infected with Covid-19.

Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad is collaborating with YaPEIM Sabah to provide aid to flood victims in Sabah. YaPEIM has a very strong presence on the ground and is even involved in aiding the Covid-19 vaccination drive in these areas.

This campaign aims to reduce the difficulties faced by the villagers and support those who have lost their income. Donations will be used to provide clean water to 2 villages - Kampung Garama and Kampung Kuridak in Beaufort via installation of water tanks in strategic locations. After the floods, access to clean water for daily use and consumption becomes a rare luxury. This water project is expected to benefit more than 1000 people including 100+ households and allow the needy villagers to receive clean water supply.

4 water tanks, with the capacity of 9000 gallon each would be provided to the 2 identified villages. In addition, 4 rescue boats would also be contributed to Pasukan Bomba dan Penyelamat Daerah Beaufort (Fire Department). These boats will be used to help flood victims.

Cost of 4 Water Tanks in 2 Villages: RM 38,948.80

Cost of 4 Aid boats: RM 16,000

Most of these villagers are involved in rubber tapping and the palm oil business. Floods occur nearly thrice a year and heavily affects their business.

This project overall will aim to provide:
- Water Tanks
- Boats
- Safety Vests and Equipment
- Aid for Affected Mosques
- Water Jet Assistance
- Shelter tents for affected victims
- Build storage for food and other necessities like petrol etc
- OKU friendly equipment

The number of people affected is devastating. The people of Sabah need our help. The Messenger of Allah said: “Whoever relieves a Muslim of a burden from the burdens of the world, Allah will relieve him of a burden from the burdens on the Day of Judgement. And whoever helps ease a difficulty in the world, Allah will grant him ease from a difficulty in the world and in the Hereafter. And whoever covers (the faults of) a Muslim, Allah will cover (his faults) for him in the world and the Hereafter. And Allah is engaged in helping the worshipper as long as the worshipper is engaged in helping his brother.” [Tirmidhi]
