Supporting Vulnerable Orphans in India Get Access to Basic Education
This campaign is Funded!
The Covid-19 pandemic has turned the world as we know it upside down and brought down major countries to their knees. India has been severely affected with the pandemic with number of cases and deaths running into thousands on a daily basis. In all this, some of the most vulnerable voices are those of the weakest, the young children. The Covid-19 pandemic has claimed over 34 million lives in India, leaving more than a million children affected by the loss of a parent or a guardian in a span of less than 2 years. In 2019, the United Nation's Children Fund (UNICEF) had reported that India was home to more than 29.6 million orphans. COVID-19 has invariably increased the number by thousands. It's impossible at this time to come up with a realistic count of how many children have been affected since the onset of the pandemic. As of May 31, the National Commission of Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) submitted a report to the Indian Supreme Court mentioning that 7,464 children lost one of their parents to COVID, and 1,742 children lost both their parents and 140 children were abandoned between April 2020 and May 29, 2021. Only 3.9% of the total 9,346 children who were abandoned or lost their parents due to COVID-19 could be traced in shelter homes, orphanages or special adoption agencies. These are official numbers, and the undocumented numbers are rumoured to be much higher.
Access to basic education is a right that every child should enjoy. Educational reform is critical to promoting and sustaining the development of any community in the world. In India, Muslims have been the most educationally backward group. The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has further worsened the already crumbling state of education for Muslim children, especially when they are left with a single or no parent to look after even the most basic of their needs. This is the case spanning across the country and involves other communities as well. According to the United Nation’s policy brief on the pandemic’s impact on education; as many as 24 million children may drop out of school due to COVID-19 impact. As a counter measure to this unfortunate event, Association of Muslim Professionals (AMP) India has launched this project to help support the Covid orphans. AMP aims to give MYR 57,000 (approx INR 10,00,000) to 100 children as part of this program. Each orphan will get MYR 565 (approx INR 10,000). AMP does extensive research and prepares a list of the orphans who are in the most dire conditions and supports them as part of this initiative. Donations to this campaign will help support the education of the vulnerable Covid orphans in India! Start with just RM10. Together, we can make a positive difference in the lives of our brothers and sisters in India. The Messenger of Allah said: “Whoever relieves a Muslim of a burden from the burdens of the world, Allah will relieve him of a burden from the burdens on the Day of Judgement. And whoever helps ease a difficulty in the world, Allah will grant him ease from a difficulty in the world and in the Hereafter. And whoever covers (the faults of) a Muslim, Allah will cover (his faults) for him in the world and the Hereafter. And Allah is engaged in helping the worshipper as long as the worshipper is engaged in helping his brother.” [Tirmidhi]
