Campaign Story

Only 2-3% of Cambodia’s population is Muslim. Of the total number of members of the Islamic community, which may be as many as 500,000 in a total population of 15 million, an uncertain proportion, perhaps 10-15%, are Malays, the descendants of settlers from sections of modern Malaysia and Sumatra. Poverty and lack of education is rampant across the community.

Ikatan Pembangunan Muslim Selangor (ASMAK) is created for the sole purpose of community development, starting with education especially for the underprivileged children of Muslim minorities.

ASMAK began their dawah and educative drive in Cambodia by establishing a school called the Musa-Asiah Integrated School (SEPAMA). The school started with primary integrated education in 2012 and now the school just opened the first year of secondary education.

All resources, besides staff salaries, are used for building:

- six classrooms for primary education
- six classrooms for secondary year education
- a library
- a language lab
- a computer lab
- tree sciences labs (Physics, Chemistry and Biology)

This is besides the main office for the school principal and a hall for 40 staff members. A school canteen is also urgently needed to take of the young students.

This campus is planned to accommodate up to 400 students; a 2-hectare piece of land is needed for expansion in the near future. Once the infrastructure of this main small campus is completed, ASMAK plans to build more campuses for primary integrated education. Later, ASMAK will also be moving into other sections like community development in business by training a group of the school's staff members recruited especially for handling the business avenues. This will make the school sustainable in the long run as well. These are businesses which for the first phase will be service-oriented.

Donations to this campaign will be used to construct the third floor of the SEPAMA school.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever relieves a Muslim of a burden from the burdens of the world, Allah will relieve him of a burden from the burdens on the Day of Judgement. [Timirdhi]
