Water is one of the most basic, foundational necessities required to sustain life. With it Allah gives life and without it Allah decrees that life is halted. GlobalSadaqah has launched a “Give Water” initiative that aims to provide access to clean water for poor and needy families across the globe.
ESA (Ethis Super Angels) plays a key role to invest in promising startups focused on the Muslim world and halal sectors. Over the past 2 years, our initial group of 50+ ESA members invested a total of US$3mn in 9 startups, from Malaysia to the UK. As we embark on our newly-launched ESA (Ethis Super Angels) Syndicate, we would like to mark its beginning by coming together to #CirculateGood as a sign of gratitude and thanks to Allah.
Donations to this campaign will help establish wells in Cambodia.
Cambodia is considered one of the poorest countries in the world. Nearly 74% of the population depends on agriculture for their livelihood and has no other source of income. Many families don’t even have the surety to have 2 proper meals in a day. If this was not enough, about 50% of villages across Cambodia still lack access to clean water. The majority of the Cambodians depend on river water and rain for meeting their daily needs. Using unclean water sources, the community becomes vulnerable to water-borne diseases such as cholera etc. It gets even worse if the disease spreads to the elderly and children as getting treatment is also not a solution for many poor households.
Each well in Cambodia costs: RM2,056 (USD 491)
All the wells will be maintained and taken care of by the charity partner on the ground after its establishment. Routine checks are done to make sure that they are functioning in order and that the beneficiaries using them have no complaints.
The beneficiaries include:
– Orphans
– Poor Villagers
– Madrasah Children
– Needy Families
– Single Mothers and Widows
The world is facing a drinking water problem and shortage. We need to come together and work to leave a legacy that will continue to benefit us hundreds of years after we have departed from this life. Keeping this in mind, we have embarked on a mission to establish a waqf in the form of a well in Cambodia.
Why is a well one of the best choices for a waqf? Sa’ad ibn Ubadah asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, “Which charity is best?” The Prophet ﷺ said, “A drink of water.”
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him.” [Muslim]
Even if you cannot sponsor an entire well, your donations will be used to support the existing wells and help in their maintenance.
