Key Points
- The target is to sacrifice at least 30 sheep this Eidul Adha, to be distributed to the poor in the Baramulla district, a far-flung remote area
- The people in these far-flung areas are extremely poor, and often, humanitarian aid will not reach these places. It's a "lost world" with no internet access all the time
Campaign Story
1 lamb = MYR 1055 (USD 228)
2 lambs = MYR 2110
3 lambs = MYR 3165
Last year, Iltizam Relief Society organised Qurbani in Azad Kashmir, which is one of the Kashmir regions administered by Pakistan.
Previous year, we did Qurbani in Indian-occupied Kashmir ( i.e Jammu and Kashmir or simply J&K) regions.
This year, we are returning to J&K, in Baramulla district.
This is because we found that the J&K needs more help than its sister states across the border.
The Kashmir issue is no secret to anyone. Compared to the Palestinian issue, the Kashmir issue often does not get attention from the international community, despite going through similar persecutions as Palestine. Often, the Kashmir issue is forgotten, and the people there suffer alone.
Since 2021, Iltizam Relief has established cooperation with a few local NGOs in Kashmir that are registered and are also recognised by the Government of India. We have tried our best to help the Muslims here with humanitarian assistance, which will include the Qurbani programme in 2021.
This time, we are targeting to sacrifice at least 30 sheep on this Eid al-Adha, and the meat will be distributed to the poor in the far-flung areas of Baramulla district (which is about 54km from the state capital city, Srinagar). The people in these far-flung areas are extremely poor, and often, humanitarian aid will not reach these places. It's a "lost world" with no internet access all the time, especially when new violence racks the region.
Since J&K is directly ruled by the Central Government of India (GOI), the GOI only allows the sacrificing of sheep or goats in Kashmir
hence, the price of sheep is expensive here. This could be another reason why you should support Qurbani in J&K. Without Qurbani, fresh lamb is like an exotic meat here that most poor people in the far-flung areas cannot afford to buy.
Your support will make this Eid al-Adha a special and meaningful celebration for these people.
