Campaign story

At the beginning of March 2023, several districts in Johor were hit by the devastating North East Monsoon Flood. The number of flood victims in Johor reached more than 79,000 people with a total of 346 temporary evacuation centers operating from 8 districts. The worst hit districts were Batu Pahat, Muar and Segamat with 68,713¹ victims.

Many of the victims have suffered economic losses and hardship, not to mention loss or damage to property and belongings. Recovery will take time, especially among vulnerable members of society such as the elderly, low-income families, and the disabled. Continuous support and contributions would still be required for them to continue their daily lives until they are able to stand on their feet again. This year, daily life is a totally different atmosphere as currently the focus is on re-building their lives; repairing damaged houses, replacing broken household and basic electrical appliances.

To help ease the burden and bring a modicum of cheer, the Bank is collaborating with the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) to co-ordinate a post-flood relief assistance. Cleaning services and assistance will also be offered.

The aid will be distributed to victims among the worst hit areas in Batu Pahat, Muar and Segamat consisting of:

1. Food packs for 350 families

2. Basic electrical appliances such as rice cooker, 2 burner stoves and an electric kettle for 140 families.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “If anyone relieves a Muslim believer from one of the hardships of this worldly life, Allah will relieve him of one of the hardships of the Day of Resurrection". [Muslim]
