Campaign Story
Update: This latest initiative is a consolidation of a previous effort, which aims to further boost the increasing dawah activities in Papua New Guinea (PNG). To date, Al-Hidayah Centre PNG with their associates have built 5 Masjids with permanent facilities, alhamdulillah.
Papua New Guinea (PNG) is a large island nation situated bordering Indonesia and Australia in the southwestern Pacific. Papua New Guinea is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world. As of 2019, it is also the most rural, as only 13.25% of its people live in urban centres. There are an estimated 6,000 to 10,000 Muslims currently or about less than 10% of the entire population.
This young and new small Muslim community in Papua New Guinea needs your help. Islam in this large island nation has grown in leaps and bounds when we realize that in the 1980s, there were only 6 Muslims in the entire country. In Popondetta, Northern Province of PNG, the Al Hidayah Centre is propagating Islam and working closely with other NGO partners to assist and develop the underprivileged through welfare and community programmes.
Together with local Muslim community leaders, they have set up Street Dawah programmes in the capital Port Moresby to convey the beautiful teachings of Islam and educate the general public. The Street Dawah team set up exhibitions in shops, malls, and along the streets from town to town, to give free Islamic literature and speak to non Muslims to propagate the message of Islam.
Therefore it is crucial for them to have this Dawah Taxi, which will be used to carry the literature, the equipment and also the volunteers from the mosque to the respective locations, which would be difficult to reach via public transport - which sometimes are 3-4 hours drive away!
Many new Muslims also live in the remote areas, and aren’t able to travel to the capital city to learn the basics of the religion. Therefore, the taxi is needed to reach them. Some of them are so far out, they don’t have access to the Internet to learn online nor is it feasible for the team to teach them over the phone.
They aim to purchase a taxi to become independent, sustainable and help generate income to support their educational dawah activities and centre. The raised revenue from providing transportation services in the region, will help in the following:
- Local Imam Development and Empowerment
- Student support and Islamic Education
- New Muslim Empowerment and Education
- Masjid Support
- Dawah activities
- Administration of Al-Hidayah Centre Papua New Guinea Inc.
This is a unique opportunity for our donors to support and empower a new community of Muslims in Papua New Guinea just like the early days of Madinah when a new Muslim community was being formed.
By helping them to spread the message of Islam and support new Muslims, you are getting in at the start of something big. It is well known that when you are in at the beginning of a project such as this, the rewards of sadaqah jariyah are more than those who come later. They are new Muslims, their children are the first generation of born indigenous Muslims, they too will have children and invite to Islam and it goes on and on. Invest in your akhirah, today.
The Messenger of Allah said: “Whoever relieves a Muslim of a burden from the burdens of the world, Allah will relieve him of a burden from the burdens on the Day of Judgement. And whoever helps ease a difficulty in the world, Allah will grant him ease from a difficulty in the world and in the Hereafter. And whoever covers (the faults of) a Muslim, Allah will cover (his faults) for him in the world and the Hereafter. And Allah is engaged in helping the worshipper as long as the worshipper is engaged in helping his brother.” [Tirmidhi]
