Key Points

  • To date, more than 300 Rohingya refugee children are currently enrolled in UAIM.
  • This is Phase 2 of UAIM's campaign. In Phase 1, thanks to our donors and their support, we managed to secure one year's rental and utility bills to support the school.
  • Donations to this campaign will be used to complete the new Academic building and meet the expenses of procuring and other needed amenities for the classrooms.
  • A secondary aim of this campaign is to continue distributing food packs (including other necessities) to the underprivileged communities besides the Rohingya that are under the care of UAIM.

Update:

At United Arakan Institute Malaysia (UAIM), our commitment to enriching the lives of 130 refugee children, most of whom are Rohingya, has been bolstered by your invaluable support. The establishment of our computer lab has launched a new era of digital literacy, with students starting on Microsoft Office skills, setting them on a path toward future opportunities in graphic design and beyond.

Your generous donations have sustained our boarding school's fundamental needs—covering the essentials such as rent, utilities, teacher salaries, and ensuring our educational mission proceeds unhindered. This support has been pivotal, providing our students with a stable environment conducive to learning and growth.

Beyond the classroom, we've embraced agricultural self-sufficiency by growing crops that now supply half of our daily food requirements, fostering a healthy diet enriched with organic produce. This holistic approach extends to equipping each child with school uniforms, books, and covering transportation costs for six months—removing financial barriers to their education. Your contributions have been the cornerstone of these transformative changes, and we are profoundly grateful for your partnership in this journey of empowerment.

1. Revamped Surau and Wudhu area

2. Full-blown cafeteria built to provide food for over 170 children

3. Building a farm with fast-growing crops with a focus on sustainability for the school.

4. Opened a section for Islamic Scholarship for students who want to become Alim (scholar).

5. Football and Playground built to keep children fit.

The children have been showing great progress both in their Islamic studies, memorization of the Quran as well as their academic studies. The school recently managed to get a new science teacher with the focus on science experiments to help the students understand the world better. May Allah bless everyone for building the leaders of tomorrow.

Let's start with just MYR 5 and help provide the gift of education to our young refugee brothers and sisters. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever relieves a Muslim of a burden from the burdens of the world, Allah will relieve him of a burden from the burdens on the Day of Judgement. And whoever helps ease a difficulty in the world, Allah will grant him ease from a difficulty in the world and in the Hereafter. And whoever covers (the faults of) a Muslim, Allah will cover (his faults) for him in the world and the Hereafter. And Allah is engaged in helping the worshipper as long as the worshipper is engaged in helping his brother.” [Tirmidhi]

A Journey of Progress: UAIM’s Achievements and Future Plans

Salam Everyone,

Hope this message finds you well. I wanted to personally update you on the progress and activities at UAIM, made possible through your generous support.

UAIM Establishment and Growth

UAIM began in 2016 with a Tahfiz school and 10 Rohingya children at Masjid Jamek Batu 12, Puchong Selangor, under Ustaz Mohd Sayd's guidance, focusing on Islamic education. By 2018, UAIM officially expanded to include academic education, and today, it serves 150 students, blending religious teachings with a comprehensive curriculum to prepare them for a brighter future.

Recent Achievements
In the past 3-6 months, UAIM has made significant strides. We trained our teachers in advanced methods, developed student leadership programs, and integrated innovative teaching strategies. We also established a state-of-the-art ICT lab, updated our curriculum, engaged in community outreach, expanded extracurricular activities, and launched sustainability initiatives.

Future Goals
Looking ahead, our primary goal is to prepare students for IGCSE examinations by 2025 and facilitate their university enrollment. We aim to develop career counseling programs, enhance extracurricular activities, integrate advanced technology, build community and industry partnerships, promote lifelong learning, ensure emotional and mental well-being, and achieve high academic standards.

Your continued support is the cornerstone of our success. Together, we are making a significant impact on many lives. Thank you for being an essential part of this journey.

Warm regards,
Ustaz Haji Mohd Zainal bin Haji Khamis

Chairman of UAIM
