Campaign Story

Water is one of the most basic, foundational necessities required to sustain life. With it Allah gives life and without it, Allah decrees that life is halted. GlobalSadaqah has launched a 'Give Water' initiative that aims to provide access to clean water for poor and needy families across the globe.

This is an initiative by the students and everyone that benefitted from Sheikh Uzair Shams over the years to establish a waqf well that will be a sadaqah jariyah for the Sheikh.

Sheikh Uzair Shams passed away in Makkah due to a heart attack at the age of 65. The Sheikh was the epitome of a true Ahl al-Hadith scholar. Despite being a walking library, forget encyclopedia, the Sheikh was an embodiment of the highest adab and humility. The Sheikh till his very final moments was in the service of the students by teaching and advising them. Sheikh Uzair was well known for his efforts on the books of Imam Ibn Taymiyyah and Imam Ibn al-Qayyim.

The Sheikh was also known for his research, verification, and translation works along with his oceanic knowledge of Arabic Manuscripts, classical Arabic and Urdu poetry, literature, and hadith.

May Allah have Mercy upon him and Forgive his shortcomings. May Allah grant our Sheikh al-Firdous al-A'laa and reward him for all his great efforts in serving the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

Why is our waqf of choice a well? Sa’ad ibn Ubadah asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, “Which charity is best?” The Prophet ﷺ said, “A drink of water.”

Donations to this campaign will help establish a well in the honour of Sheikh Uzair Shams in the neediest villages in Africa. 

The Need

For many communities in Northern Nigeria, water can be hard to come by, simply due to the lack of proper infrastructure to service the community. It is with this need in mind that An-Nadaa Educational Foundation under the guidance of Sheikh Dr.Ibrahim Nuhu has made it its mission to assist these communities with access to safe water for daily consumption. An-Nadaa is one of GlobalSadaqah's most active and successful partners. They have built nearly 100 wells since 2018.

The Safe Water for All Project aims to provide new wells and boreholes for communities disconnected from water sources by doing extensive research on the ground, talking to community leaders on areas of need and enabling donors from all over the world to lend a helping hand to assist their fellow brothers and sisters in need.

The beneficiaries include:
- Orphans
- Poor Villagers
- Madrasah Children 
- Needy Families 
- Single Mothers and Widows

The cost of a well covers the establishment of a borehole, required equipment to enable reliable delivery of drinking water, and long-term maintenance costs required to service a well for years to come - effectively providing a long-term solution to the communities needs. An-Nadaa’s team actively does routine checks on the established boreholes to ensure the project does not just stop at the establishment of wells. 

Abu Hurairah reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him.” [Muslim]

Even if you cannot sponsor an entire well, your donations will be used to support the existing wells and help in their maintenance.
