Campaign Story

GoodDeeds International has been actively working to provide aid and empower remote group of communities with a population of about 1,500 people on the islands of Mabong, Buyu Besar, Buyu Kechil and  Pasir Panjang  in the far Eastern corner of the Riau Province in Indonesia. Why these places? Due to their remote location these communities have been neglected and are in need of serious aid.

Pak Kadim is a 54 year old fisherman from the Island of Buyu Kecil. Most of the people living here are fishermen by profession.

On 22 December Pak Kadim started experiencing severe breathing difficulties. As the breathing became even more laboured, his family brought him to the nearest clinic in Tajur Biru which itself is 52km away by sea. The doctor advised that he be sent to the hospital for treatment immediately. The nearest hospital is at Tanjung Pinang which is 120 km away.

He was rushed to the hospital on 23 December. After examination, he was diagnosed with Tuberclosis. The treatment was successfully completed and he was discharged on 31 December. GDIB has come up front to help with the costs for now. As a fisherman, Pak Kadim earns only about RM450/month which is not sufficient to meet the expenses.

The family barely makes ends meet and this extra medical expense has put them into a very desperate situation. In the name of medical facilities, the islanders only have a poorly equipped clinic that is manned by a midwife. Access to medical facilities and a qualified doctor is only available at Tajur Biru which is 55km away. What makes the matter worse is that there are no readily available means of transport in cases of emergencies.

Donations to this campaign will be used for Pak Kadim’s surgery and accompanying expenses.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever relieves a Muslim of a burden from the burdens of the world, Allah will relieve him of a burden from the burdens on the Day of Judgement. And whoever helps ease a difficulty in the world, Allah will grant him ease from a difficulty in the world and in the Hereafter. And whoever covers (the faults of) a Muslim, Allah will cover (his faults) for him in the world and the Hereafter. And Allah is engaged in helping the worshipper as long as the worshipper is engaged in helping his brother.” [Tirmidhi]
