Campaign Story

Rohingya are the indigenous Muslim ethnic minority of Burma (Myanmar) mainly residing in Arakan (Rakhine) state. The Rohingya are considered the most persecuted minority in the world. The plight of the Rohingya is well known at an international level. Nearly every other day we read or hear something about them. The discrimination against Rohingya Muslims not only kept them behind in the sociopolitical field, but in fact they have blocked Rohingya Muslims from their spiritual and mental development and growth too. The very essence of the discrimination against the Rohingya was based on their religion and race. The families in Myanmar still continue to face immense persecution and oppression.

This led to a mass human exodus from Myanmar to Bangladesh that turned Cox’s Bazar into the world’s largest refugee settlement that is now home to over 900,000 Rohingya refugees. Humanitarian organisations are overwhelmed by the vast scale of needs. In addition, more than half of the Rohingya refugees in the camps are children. Furthermore, the camps are under constant threat of flooding, landslides, fires, and other disasters.
With the blessed month of Ramadan approaching soon, all of us are preparing to welcome this guest into our lives. When the adhan for Maghrib is called, we will turn to a filled table and quench our thirst and satisfy our hunger. But for many families in Myanmar, this hunger doesn’t end.

This Ramadan, al-Iltizam is working on the ground to make sure that the poor and needy families in across both Myanmar and refugee camps in Bangladesh have enough to eat and to get them through this month. The team will start distribution just before and continue during the first week of Ramadan. Our Rohingya brothers and sisters also deserve to be free of the burdens of worrying about food and dedicate themselves in worshipping and making the most of the blessed month of Ramadan.

Food Distribution

What Is In The Food Box?
Each food box lasts a family of four for approximately a month and costs MYR 150. It contains the following items:

Donations to this campaign will feed refugees in overcrowded camps in Cox Bazaar in Bangladesh as well as Internally Displaced People (IDPs) and the poor villagers in Rakhine State, Myanmar.

MYR 150 also includes the cost of purchasing, packaging, and distributing the food boxes to various different families.

The team aims to provide 700 daily hot meals to individuals, during Ramadan. The team will also provide food aid for 300 families that is approximately enough to last them for 1 month.

How Are The Beneficiaries Selected?

Each beneficiary is carefully vetted and verified by the team on the ground that is connected to the local community. A strict verification procedure makes sure that your donations reach those who really need it this Ramadan.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever gives Iftaar to one who is fasting will have a reward like his, without that detracting from the reward of the fasting person in the slightest.” [Tirmidhi] After hearing this Abdullah Ibn Umar used to only break his fast with orphans and the poor and needy. Imagine, if you help feed ten fasting brothers and sisters. You would get the rewards for their fasting as well.
