Campaign Story

Three days of massive torrential rain over the weekend caused severe flooding in eight states, partially submerging towns and villages in water. The flooding has driven thousands from their homes, closed dozens of roads and disrupted shipping. Over 70,000 people are reported to have been displaced.

As of Sunday 26 December, 48 people have died due to the floods, while five are still missing. According to the Welfare Department’s Info, the central Pahang state remains the worst-hit, with 17,761 people from 5,469 families displaced, while Selangor came in second, with 16,512 individuals from 4628 families. In Kelantan, 633 flood victims are currently housed at several relief centres, while in Melaka and Negeri Sembilan, 29 and 141 people respectively are also sheltered in such centres.

Floodwaters in Selangor, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka have made several roads impassable, with reports of people stranded overnight in their cars.

Heavy rains raised water levels in some parts of Selangor in what has been called the heaviest rainfall in the past 100 years. Water level in many areas rose above knee length. Tortoises, snakes and monitor lizards have also crept into flooded homes causing further panic for many residents.

Our partners on the ground are continuously monitoring the situation and responding to emergency aid requests. The numbers are increasing as you read this and the Malaysian public needs all the help and support that it can get. Donations to this campaign will be used to provide emergency relief to Malaysians affected by the floods.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever relieves a Muslim of a burden from the burdens of the world, Allah will relieve him of a burden from the burdens on the Day of Judgement. And whoever helps ease a difficulty in the world, Allah will grant him ease from a difficulty in the world and in the Hereafter. And whoever covers (the faults of) a Muslim, Allah will cover (his faults) for him in the world and the Hereafter. And Allah is engaged in helping the worshipper as long as the worshipper is engaged in helping his brother.” [Tirmidhi]

This is a developing campaign and more updates will be added as we get information from the ground.
