Campaign Story
Yemen is going through an unprecedented level of hunger, the likes of which have not been seen in recent human history. At least 5 million people in Yemen are on the brink of famine and a further 16 million are “marching toward starvation”, as the country’s humanitarian crisis worsens. Aid workers describe ‘horrific’ scenes in one hospital where starving and malnourished children ‘look like skeletons’. Families are resorting to eating the waxy leaves of a local tree to survive, boiling them to soften them into a bitter-tasting paste that is slightly more digestible.
The Covid-19 pandemic has increased costs, made access to resources, and distribution of aid more difficult.
This Eid al-Adha, we aim to put a smile on the face of our poor and needy Muslim brothers and sisters in Yemen. They should also get the chance to forget their sorrows and make the most out of Eid. Our charity partners, Al-Iltizam will be arranging Udhiya or Qurbani of cows this Eid ul Adha without any extra middle-men in between. The team will be focusing on the Thom and Cham provinces this year.
After the qurban, the meat is not distributed randomly to anyone who comes asking for it. After careful research and proper verification, a list is formed of those who are the most needy families. The preparation of this list is done with a lot of care so that meat reaches those who are really deserving. Al-Iltizam has been providing free bread via a bakery set up in Taiz and Zabid for a few years already. This gives them first hand access to the local community. The team on the ground will be fulfilling all Islamic principles and requirements as per proper Islamic teachings.
By donating to this qurban campaign, our donors have the opportunity to help feed their Muslim brothers and sisters directly on the ground in Zabid, Yemen. It’s not just about the quantity of the donation. The main aim is the quality of our donations and being a part of circulating good for the sake of Allah.
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “The best of deeds is making the believer happy, such as covering his ‘awrah, satisfying his hunger or meeting his need.” [Tabarani]
For these people finding sustenance is a challenge in itself and with their non-existent to meager earnings a good meal (like meat) is a luxury most have rarely experienced.
Your sacrifice done for these people will bring them huge relief and great joy on this auspicious occasion of Eid. Donations to this campaign will help provide meat packages to these poor and needy Muslims so that they also get the chance to forget their sorrows and make the most out of Eid.
