Building A School for Poor Asnaf Children in Sulawesi
or donate via
Today we visit a school from the Patingke Village located in Tinombo district, Parigi Moutong, in Central Sulawesi Province. There are 60 Asnaf children enrolled there, ranging from grade 1-6 of elementary school. Patingke village is a remote village that is not easily accessible as it is surrounded by cliffs and has really poor infrastructure. Most of the villagers are plantation workers that are not very well of economically, with houses built of wood. The school was initially built because of the long distance of travel to the nearest available school in the area. Before this, the children had to travel for hours through jungles and rivers to get there which was extremely dangerous and time consuming. The condition of the route is worsened even further during rains.
This project was initiated by Rumah Zakat’s team of Inspirational Volunteers for village empowerment together with teachers who teach voluntarily. The school is in a very poor condition as it is made of bamboo, with tarps for a ceiling that leaks whenever it rains. The seeping water creates a puddle in the dirt floor of the school. The school only has two classrooms, separated from each other by a bamboo wall. With 60 children enrolled there, the children have to take turns in using the classes.
Cahamudin (40), one of the teachers at this school said that limited facilities and infrastructure hinder the learning process in the current school. He hopes that this school can be improved and the children in the village can get a chance at decent educational facilities. Supporting this campaign will help empower these poor children as the future successors of the nation. One of the students, Mika (7) said “I have never attended a school other than this elementary school, I am very happy to be able to study and study here because this school is not far from where I live,” he said
Donations to this campaign will be used for construction costs, labour costs, infrastructure and other necessary operational facilities. Let’s start with just MYR 10 and help our brothers and sisters by giving them the gift of education and empowerment. The family is classified and verified as part of Asnaf beneficiaries by Rumah Zakat’s Shariah Board.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever relieves a Muslim of a burden from the burdens of the world, Allah will relieve him of a burden from the burdens on the Day of Judgement. And whoever helps ease a difficulty in the world, Allah will grant him ease from a difficulty in the world and in the Hereafter. And whoever covers (the faults of) a Muslim, Allah will cover (his faults) for him in the world and the Hereafter. And Allah is engaged in helping the worshipper as long as the worshipper is engaged in helping his brother.” [Tirmidhi]
