In Malaysia 900,000 of the total population lives below the poverty line for various known reasons. Many of the people in this situation don’t have access to adequate basic needs like food, accommodation, healthcare, hygiene, sanitation and education etc. To battle this, the Tuition Project was launched that aims to support primary school students throughout the state of Johor. This project is implemented in collaboration with the Johor State Education Department (Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri Johor) and the District Education Office (Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah).
The program has been successfully running since 2012 and serving countless families. Looking at the success of the project, the numbers are growing and more schools are getting involved. The main objective of this project is to:
– Provide opportunities for students in rural areas, especially the less fortunate to attend tuitions.
– Improve students’ mastery of core subjects.
– Improving the academic achievement of low achieving schools.
The learning method employed in the schools is conventional and online or ‘e-learning’ developed by specialists in education. This learning method optimizes the use of computers with learning through videos, notes, digital libraries and exercises that can be accessed from anywhere. The project will focus on tuitions in English language for primary schools and tuitions in Business, Economics, and Accounts for secondary schools. There will be weekly tuitions for each subject for an hour.
The beneficiaries include:
– Lower income group or B40
– Academic performance of the students is above average or good.
The project includes 11 towns covering 57 schools (46 primary + 10 secondary)
Donations to this campaign will help educate orphans, children from lower income families, and enhance the academic opportunities for the poor students in Johor.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever relieves a Muslim of a burden from the burdens of the world, Allah will relieve him of a burden from the burdens on the Day of Judgement. And whoever helps ease a difficulty in the world, Allah will grant him ease from a difficulty in the world and in the Hereafter. And whoever covers (the faults of) a Muslim, Allah will cover (his faults) for him in the world and the Hereafter. And Allah is engaged in helping the worshipper as long as the worshipper is engaged in helping his brother.” [Tirmidhi]
