Campaign Story
Malaysia is a country with a population of 32 million where about about 61% of them are Muslim. As per certain surveys 900,000 of the total population lives below the poverty line for various known reasons. Many of the people in this situation don’t have access to adequate basic needs like food, accommodation, healthcare, hygiene, sanitation and education etc. They have very limited access to nutritional food and are also vulnerable to all kinds of diseases and are prone to acute malnutrition due to extreme poverty.
As the Covid-19 pandemic continues to have a severe impact across Malaysia, many of the less privileged sections of the society are facing severe hardship. It has become very tough to get food and many don’t have enough food in the house for the whole family to have dinner properly. This is a result of many small businesses being closed down and Covid-19 restrictions have further left them crippled. The number of suicide cases has alarmingly shot up across the country and people have started displaying white flags asking for help.
Waqaf An-Nur is organizing different kinds of support program for underprivileged people to support the weaker sections of the society and one of the most appreciated programs is the “Emergency Food Basket”.
Donations to this campaign will help provide essential food items for a family of 5. These families are from the Asnaf and B40 communities in Malaysia. Donations to this campaign will also be used to give out direct financial aid in the form of cash to the beneficiaries in addition to the food items.
How is the financial aid distributed? The beneficiaries are selected based on the criteria set by the Johor Religious Council(MAIJ) and includes:
– Asnaf registered under MAIJ
– B40 registered with the District Officer Office
– Workers/ Family heads that have lost their jobs
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever relieves a Muslim of a burden from the burdens of the world, Allah will relieve him of a burden from the burdens on the Day of Judgement. And whoever helps ease a difficulty in the world, Allah will grant him ease from a difficulty in the world and in the Hereafter. And whoever covers (the faults of) a Muslim, Allah will cover (his faults) for him in the world and the Hereafter. And Allah is engaged in helping the worshipper as long as the worshipper is engaged in helping his brother.” [Tirmidhi]
